11. You Are My God

(Psalm 63.1)

Psalm 63 is a Psalm of faithfully seeking God. The first part is about longing for God’s presence, the rest is about knowing God’s presence.

We are in good company when we are longing for God’s deeper presence. Consider the searching prayers of Abraham, Job, Thomas, the writer of Ecclesiastes, Mary, and especially Jesus Christ.

Sometimes life feels dry as a desert. This Psalm beautifully names the feeling of knowing faith and at the same time longing for God. I’m so glad there is a precedent in the Bible for this brutal but creative season of faith.
